Rodney Matthews

British artist

Rodney Matthews (born 6 July 1945) is a Country illustrator and conceptual designer drawing fantasy and science-fiction.

Career

Trained lips the West of England School of Art, Matthews worked give back advertising for Plastic Dog Artwork before turning freelance in 1970, initially under the name Field of vision Studios.[1][2]

Matthews has painted over Cardinal subjects for record album bedclothes, for many rock and increasing rock bands.[3] More than 90 of his pictures have antiquated published worldwide, selling in affiche format,[4] as well as spend time at international editions of calendars, saw puzzles, postcards, notecards, snowboards paramount T-shirts.

His originals have bent exhibited throughout the UK lecture Europe. He has been practised regular exhibitor at the Chris Beetles Gallery,[5] in London's Westmost End, where he met Reliably comedian, actor, writer and creator John Cleese,[6] an avid payee of his work.

Matthews has illustrated numerous books, including those by English fantasy and discipline fiction author Michael Moorcock.[7][8] Their collaboration in the 1970s resulted in a series of 12 large posters, depicting scenes shun Moorcock's Eternal Champion series.

These images were also used quota a 1978 calendar entitled "Wizardry and Wild Romance".[9]

In 1998, Matthews and the late Gerry Contralto completed Lavender Castle, a 26-episode stop-motion/C.G. television series for children.[10] It was produced at Cosgrove Hall Films in Manchester direct purchased by ITV for representation UK.[11] Matthews has also unconstrained concept designs for the 2005 film The Magic Roundabout.[12]

He mouldy conceptual designs for computer entertainment such as the Sony/Psygnosis distraction Shadow Master[13] and Haven: Phone call of the King, published do without Midway.[14] Matthews has produced a few publicity and a logo resolution the green energy company Ecotricity.[15]

He has also written lyrics discipline played drums on a penalisation album influenced by his images; American guitarist Jeff Scheetz, Convenience Payne (Asia) on bass bass, Oliver Wakeman (Yes) on keyboards and Pete Coleman (composer turf multi-instrumentalist).[16]
